On June 5, 2007 a strange occurrence was happening on our front porch.   As we sat and enjoyed coffee in the morning or treat in the afternoon...we were being "buzzed" by the "hummers"....  and then we found out why!

...and in the evening!
Mamma Humma...as I fondly refer to her, was building a nest....it took two days and the result was a "golf ball size" nest on my ornamental butterfly lights...

For those of you that knew my Mom and know my Dad, they lived in this house for over 50 years and for most
of those years I remember my Mom "making hummingbird food"...  four parts water (from our well) and one part sugar.  The hummingbirds were always ABUNDANT (and fighting) from feeder to feeder and from year to year.
When my Mom passed away and no one was in the house the Summer of 2003, we thought they would never return.
They did...and over these past couple summers, attempting to keep up my Mom's Garden as well as feed the hummers, they are out in FULL FORCE.  I have seen as many as 8 or 9 at a time and the bird people told me that this is probably only a quarter of what is actually there.
As strange as this may seem, I believe that this hummingbird was "sent" here....as the egg hatched on my own birthday!     Thanks Mom!!!   I know she would have loved to watch the antics right out of her front door!!!
